Clauses of Concession

  • although / even though + sujeto + verbo (aunque)

  • despite / in spite of (a pesar de) + sustantivo o gerundio (-ing)

  • however (sin embargo, no obstante)

Ejemplos:

  • Although it was expensive, we bought it.
    (Aunque era caro, lo compramos.)

  • Even though she was exhausted, she finished the race.
(Aunque estaba exhausta, terminó la carrera.)

  • In spite of the cold, he went swimming.

  • Despite feeling tired, he went swimming.

  • It was raining. However, we went out.
    (Estaba lloviendo. Sin embargo, salimos.)

Nota:

Podemos usar in spite of the fact / despite the fact (that) + sujeto + verbo

Ejemplo:

In spite of the fact that it was raining, we went out for a walk.
